In the early months of 2023, the number of cruise passengers has been steadily increasing, surpassing pre-pandemic figures, and exceeding expectations.

Throughout this year, Spanish ports have welcomed 3,106 cruise ships, marking a 5.5% increase compared to 2019, the year before the pandemic. Notably, the influx of cruise passengers in 2022 has surged dramatically, with a 56.6% increase in individuals cruising through Spanish waters. As of September, the total passenger traffic in Spanish ports has reached 30.5 million, surpassing both 2019 and the previous year.

The Port Authority of Spain’s September 2023 port traffic report indicates that 431 cruise ships have docked at Spanish ports, contributing to the year-to-date total of 3,106, not including those arriving post-summer season in places like Barcelona, the Balearic Islands, Las Palmas, and Tenerife. These statistics bode well for the cruise industry in Spain.

These promising statistics will be discussed alongside the challenges the industry faces at the upcoming International Cruise Summit, scheduled for November 14-15 at the Meliá Castilla Hotel in Madrid.

The primary aim of this event is to provide a current and comprehensive perspective on the prevailing factors influencing future decision-making, encompassing short-term, medium-term, and long-term considerations. This year’s program will focus on geopolitical factors impacting cruise routes, the significance of sustainability, and emerging challenges in the sphere of progress, in addition to a thorough analysis of the global market’s evolution, necessitating a comprehensive review of business strategies.

From Grupo Verlio’s viewpoint, this presents an excellent opportunity to connect with others, gather fresh insights, and develop strategies for the future, while also identifying key focus areas for the upcoming season.

Without a doubt, the International Cruise Summit is a significant commitment for the Group, and that’s why we extend an invitation to participate, connect with our team, and explore various solutions to the challenges our industry will confront.
