“Enrique Oliver, CEO of Grupo Verlio, offers us in this interview his vision on the current situation and future trends of cruise tourism in the Balearic Islands.

– You preside over the VERLIO GROUP, a company with a long maritime tradition that has been constantly adapting to the changes…

– Indeed, the Verlio Group is the fusion of the passion and vocation of five generations of shipowners and consignees and the adaptation, at all times, to the development of our exciting industry. Always with the challenge of giving the best service, in every period of our history through our companies, brands or denominations that have been forming and are part of the Group; Oliver S.A., Mariba S.A. (Marítima Balear de Transportes), Transcoma, Transcoma Baleares… Until reaching the current business conglomerate that, 8 years ago, was restructured under the unique brand and management structure “Grupo Verlio”.

– From that experience, what are the most important changes the industry is currently facing?

-It is a sector in constant evolution. At every moment it seems to us that the changes are faster and faster but, personally, I think that it is not so. We have experienced the revolution in terms of safety, speed, size in shipbuilding, recently also in terms of technology and, nowadays, in terms of environmental care and “life style” on board. It seems an industry based on the classic, on the traditional, but it is one of the sectors with more elements of development, since it combines all the factors of this in the day to day; from the technical designs, the technological ones, the fuels, the impact of the climate, the environment or the sensations in the comfort on board.”
